Over the last few months, we have been busy making improvements to our premises with sustainability in mind.
Last year our oil tank was condemned, meaning we had no heating system for the offices. Having spent a chili winter wrapping up warm and using portable devises we were fortunate enough to secure some funding from MDDC, alongside support through the prosper program and MakeCarbonSense to help support us with our journey towards Net Zero and make some sustainable changes.
We decided to have solar panels installed, creating a long-term energy benefit for the company and the planet. This helps fuel our new heating and cooling system in the office, keeping us cosy in the winter and cool in the summer. A similar system was also chosen for the showroom enabling our clients to visit us in comfort whilst exploring our range of lifting solutions, and electric heating was installed in other parts of the premises that we regularly occupy which also uses the new solar energy system to help fuel it.
It was very important to us that we chose a local company with an ethos like our own, EX2 Group Ltd in Exeter were our chosen suppliers, and they were a wonderful choice. They were easy to talk to, explained everything perfectly and were seamless in their organisation of the solar panels, the heating and cooling systems, electrical supplies and additional works.
To make sure our new heat and cold air stays put we have invested in insulation inserted into the roof cavity again installed by EX2 Group Ltd, alongside new windows fitted by Crediton based MCA Windows and Doors Ltd, who like us are a small locally run company based near us on Lords Meadow Industrial Estate. They carried out the work quickly and efficiently, the windows not only look updated and sleek but also make an enormous difference to the temperature in the building and a noticeable reduction noise pollution within the offices.
We have had new doors fitted on the entrances, one for staff and one for our new customer entrance which is currently being created with full disabled access, and a smoother route into the show room – watch this space for more info!
Reducing our carbon emissions is vital to our success as a company going forward and a passion close to our hearts. Supporting our planet by using local companies for products and services wherever we can, employing local staff and being more carbon efficient benefits the local community, local families, our beautiful Devon countryside and it makes us happy!
