Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions about Stairlifts and Lifting solutions
The cost of a stairlift depends on the stairs (or steps) you have. Stairs with bends will need a bespoke rail that is more expensive than a straight rail for straight stairs.
So although there is no fixed price for a stairlift, you can contact us and we will provide a completely free survey and no obligation quote (not an estimate) for the right stairlift or lifting solution for your home. We provide a quality, complete service with ongoing support right through to buy backs and removals.
We do not employ ‘sales people’ to carry out the survey – we use our own surveyors who have excellent knowledge and experience of recommending the right stairlift for your home. Each of them are trained engineers who have fitted stairlifts and other lifting solutions themselves and they do not work on a commission basis (like many of the bigger companies). We provide a written quote and leave you to contact us if you’d like to place an order – there’s no hard sell or follow-up phone calls from us, as we realise it may take time for you to talk it over with your family or friends before coming to a decision.
Our total price includes the supply and fitting – and we usually ask for a small deposit and the remainder after completion.
We also have a stock of reconditioned stairlifts, and offer the option to rent a stairlift – see the question below for more details.
So to find the best stairlift for you and your home with a free quote including fitting give us a call or email us.
Yes – we offer a rental option for a stairlift, where you pay an upfront cost to cover the installation and removal fee, together with the first months’ rental. Prices start at £40 per month and include the cost of call-outs, parts and annual servicing. There is no minimum term and you can have the stairlift removed at any time. See our Rent a Stairlift page.
We can install your new straight stairlift within 7 working days (subject to a survey) and we can install a curved stairlift in 3 to 4 weeks. If we have a reconditioned stairlift in stock that is suitable for you, then we can organise an emergency installation for a straight stairlift in around 3 to 5 working days (although this is subject to our workload). Our curved stairlift rails are specifically designed to fit your stairs, giving the smoothest travel possible. Some stairlift companies simply use smaller rail parts fitted together – and as these are readily available, they can offer a shorter delivery time. We feel that having a better quality product with specifically made rails is more important than a quicker delivery time.

We are members of the British Health Trade Association (BHTA), and their helpful guide looks at all the things you should consider when buying a lift:
VAT Relief is available for disabled people – and we will ask you to complete a declaration if you are ‘chronically sick or disabled’ and the goods or services are for your own personal or domestic use. A family member or carer can complete this on your behalf if you wish.
You can find out more from the help sheets on the www.gov.uk website or by telephoning the VAT Disabled Reliefs Helpline on 0300 123 1073.
A person is ‘chronically sick or disabled’, if he or she is a person:
- with a physical or mental impairment which has a long term and substantial adverse effect upon his or her ability to carry out every day activities;
- with a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness.
See our page Grants & VAT Options.
Your local council may be able to help towards the cost of installing a stairlift and adapting your home. The grant may be means tested and awarded when the council considers that necessary changes to your home will improve your living environment and make life easier. Visit the Direct.Gov website to find out more information about eligibility and the types of adaptations available to you. Alternatively, contact your local authority.

We recommend your stairlift is serviced annually to ensure continued efficiency, safe operation, and peace of mind. There are different terms and conditions for aftercare packages depending on whether your lift has been privately purchased through us, or if a council or housing association have funded your lift.

After this time services are chargeable. For council or housing association funded lifts, warranty’s vary depending on your region, you can check your personal terms or contact us for more information.
You can choose to take out a service contract for peace of mind. For more information see Servicing and Aftercare or please do contact us, and we can talk you through your options.
Contact us on 01363 776486 to discuss our buy back options. Please note that curved rail stairlifts are individually made to measure and have a minimal buy back value – so please bear this in mind prior to your purchase.
However, we will always remove the stairlift at no cost to you.
